On March 15, Blót kindred Vergelmer held a Disablót on the ice in the Luleå area in Sweden. The weather was beautiful at first, and we had the joy of welcoming a new face who wanted to learn more about our community. But as the blót was about to begin, a storm rolled in, and wet snow lashed our cheeks.
Despite the snowstorm, the blót officiant Nils B and assistant Ragnhild N struggled to carry out the ceremony as solemnly as possible. When the storm was at its worst and the paper was soaked, Ragnhild N bravely read the following words:
“Now that the harsh, cold winter is over and the snow has melted away, our goddess of love, Freyja, wears her white spring skirt and adorns herself with her most beautiful golden necklace, Brisingamen.
The warm sun shines brightly over Midgard, the plants come back to life, flowers bloom, and birds sing their spring songs.
Bears wake from their long, deep sleep, squirrels play in the trees, and warm love is rekindled in Midgard.”
When the blót was concluded, we thanked everyone who attended and looked forward to the next blót—on solid ground. This was the last blót on the ice for the year.
