Blót kindred Gungnir held a Disablót at Vännåkra Burial Ground near Örby, Sweden on March 15th.
The blót was conducted by Uwe Pötter, assisted by Susanne Rutfält. It was Uwe’s first open blót, and despite some nervousness, he performed it with solemnity and beauty. The harmony between Uwe and Susanne created a wonderful atmosphere for the 13 of us standing in the circle. Outside the circle, there was an adult and a child.
Above our heads, a common buzzard cried out, as if to mark the presence of the powers and promise the arrival of spring, which hesitated to reveal itself on this cold, cloudy day.
This was the second time we held a Disablót at this site. A year ago, I performed a Disablót here nine days after my mother’s passing—this time, it felt reassuring to have Uwe at the helm.
When Uwe performed the staff-walking —where anyone who wishes to speak from the heart can take a step forward as the blót officiant passes—the warmth and humor of our blót kindred shone through. Most stepped forward with a lighthearted, smiling “I agree with the previous speaker,” and many praised Uwe for a beautifully conducted blót.
After the blót, we placed offerings by the tree trunk nearby, which stands as a guardian on a small rise, watching over the gifts until nature reclaims them. Slightly chilled, we then gathered our belongings and moved to a table with benches, where we enjoyed drinks and various snacks. Our fellowship is strong, and newcomers are always warmly welcomed. We are all kindred spirits, united in our purpose: to honor our ancestors, their legacy, and to carry it forward into the future—to honor the powers.
I am proud to be part of such a fine blót kindred and of a community like the Nordiska Asa-samfundet (Nordic Asa-Community.)
