The blót kindred Sleipner invites you to join us in participating in our Victory Blót, which this year will be held at Tinnerö Eklandskap in Linköping.
The Sigurblót (Victory Blót) is the 3rd blót that Odin makes law in Svitjod, and takes place at the beginning of summer. Also this blót is disputed about when it should have taken place, some claim that it is at the spring equinox others at Walpurgis Night. But it is clear that the blót should take place at the beginning of summer (today, according to the Gregorian calendar, April 14).
The Victory Blót, celebrated sometime in March, April, or May, is an important ritual dedicated to the pursuit of victory and success. The term “blót” refers to the sacrificial rituals that are central to religious practice, while “victory” highlights the primary purpose of the festival: seeking divine blessings to triumph over the many challenges of the summer season.
In our modern times, our battles may not always look the same as they did 1,000 years ago, but we now blót based on the struggles we personally face and wish to overcome. During this ceremony, we consecrate and make offerings to the Powers, so that they may grant us the knowledge, will, and strength needed to conquer our personal battles.
The Victory Blót is not only a blót for future success and victories, but it also marks the end of the winter half-year and the beginning of the summer half-year. It takes place at the third full moon after the Midwinter Blót and lasts for three days from the full moon. If one follows the Disting rule, the Victory Blót occurs on the fourth full moon after the first new moon following the Winter Solstice.
The nature reserve called “Tinnerö Eklandskap – Culture and Nature” preserves both significant cultural heritage and rich biodiversity.
Tinnerö meadows are part of an ancient agricultural landscape full of historical sites. The most prominent remains, the stone walls, date mainly from the Roman Iron Age (0–400 AD). Few, if any, other locations on the Swedish mainland have such a well-preserved Iron Age landscape.
Traditional land management with grazing cattle and sheep makes the landscape easily accessible and ensures that the archaeological remains remain visible to visitors. Here, one can wander for hours in any season and simply enjoy the beautiful nature.
We will meet at the parking area nearby and walk together to the blot site.
We will leave the parking lot no later than 14:50. (Parking location link below).
During the blót, we will hold ritual toasts, so feel free to bring your own drinking horn (there will be cups available for those who do not have or forget theirs).
Please also bring offerings, which must be biodegradable and safe for nature, such as fruits, plants, nuts, etc.
Additionally, bring a stone from your home or a place dear to you to leave behind as part of building a hargr (stone altar). This should be a small stone that fits in your pocket.
After the blot, there will be an initiation ceremony for those who wish to formally enter Ásatrú. This involves renouncing one’s previous faith and stepping into Ásatrú.
The cost for the initiation ceremony is 100 SEK, which goes to the blót kindred.
If you would like a ceremonial certificate, an additional 60 SEK applies.
For those who wish, we will stay afterward for a fika (social gathering). Please bring a picnic basket with whatever you would like to eat, as well as a blanket.
The blót kindred Sleipner will provide coffee and tea.
