The Blót Kindred Vergelmer invites you to a Winter Nights blót.
In Ynglinga saga, Winter Nights is mentioned as the first blót of Odin, a sacrifice dedicated to a prosperous coming year, which can be understood as the beginning of a new year.
Winter Nights falls on the third full moon before the Midwinter blót and lasts for three days from the full moon.
Winter Nights marks the first day of winter and the beginning of the winter half of the year.
In our modern Gregorian calendar, the first day of winter is October 14, but in the heathen lunisolar calendar the holiday falls on the full moon of the month Haustmánuður (“Harvest Month”), which today usually occurs in September/October/November.
Winter Nights is an important holiday marking the transition from summer to winter and was usually celebrated in September/October, but in years with an extra lunar month, Winter Nights could shift to November.
The holiday also marked the culmination of the year’s agricultural work and the final harvest, a time to celebrate the land’s generosity and to acknowledge the collective labor and cooperation that made the harvest possible.
This achievement was celebrated with deep gratitude, recognizing both the richness of the earth and the human effort that secured it.
In the Icelandic sources, Dísablót is also mentioned in connection with Winter Nights.
This was likely the time when Icelanders and Norwegians held their Dísablót, while the Swedes celebrated it in early spring.
The term “haustblót” (autumn blót) also appears in relation to Winter Nights, further showing that this festival was also a sacrifice celebrating the harvest.
Everyone is welcome to participate in this blót.
Participants should bring an offering (blót gift).
Please also bring your own drinking horn or vessel; if you do not have one, disposable cups will be available.
It is good to arrive on time, preferably around 12:45.
We will meet at the entrance and then walk together to where the blót table is set.
After the blót, an initiation ceremony can be performed.
This means that before the powers, you leave your old faith behind and step into Ásatrú.
The cost is 100 SEK, and if you wish to receive a certificate of the performed rite, there is an additional fee of 60 SEK.
Payment by Swish is accepted.
