We base our beliefs on the poetic Edda, which consists of verses and poems dating back to the 8th century. Although the Edda was written later than this time, its content is much older. Among other things, the Edda contains texts about the great migration period between 375 and 568.   <\/span><br\/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">However, we are not only focussed on the poetic oath, but the Icelandic sagas are also a central part of our faith. Above all, they are important historical documents of life at that time. <\/span><\/p>\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Nordic Asatru has its roots in the Bronze Age, where artefacts have been found that suggest the worship of lightning and axes that hurled lightning.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We practise a reformed and socially compatible Asatru without the sacrifice of live animals or other violent elements.<\/span><br\/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> The ancient Norse believed that you had to die in battle to get to Valhalla and feast alongside the gods. But we believe in the intellectual battle. The battle for the preservation of our customs and the preservation of our origins. The struggle of a modern Asatru is waged on the intellectual plane. To stand up for one&#8217;s beliefs, one&#8217;s roots, to not be oppressed or have one&#8217;s religion mocked. And to spread the word about the faith and the community so that we can live on and grow stronger.     <\/span><\/p>\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The highest and wisest God is the All-Father Odin! He has many names and is the creator of the Earth (Midgard) He has several children, the most famous of which is Thor, the God of Thunder. Thor is also the most powerful God.  <\/span><\/p>\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The centre of it all is Yggdrasil. The world tree. An Ash that will stand firm even after Ragnarok.  <\/span><\/p>\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ragnarok is the day of judgement, the final day of the Aesir. When Ragnarok happens, everything will be turned upside down. Humans will fight side by side with the Aesir. Ragnarok is the end of many things but not the total destruction of the Earth. After Ragnarok, the remaining gods and humans will start all over again.    <\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/asa-samfundet.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/&#xE23;&#xE39;&#xE1B;&#xE20;&#xE32;&#xE1E;-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"sunset\" class=\"wp-image-203\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Asatru is built around the idea that the Gods are our friends and companions. The gods do not condemn us but help and support us in our everyday lives and when we need their help. <\/span><br\/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Asa gods guide us and give us direction. They are ever present to us. <\/span><\/p>\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Nor are we a literal religion; everyone has a fairly free rein within the religion. We don&#8217;t set any strict rules for when and how people should indulge in their everyday lives. It&#8217;s up to each person to decide for themselves.  <\/span><br\/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">However, at official gatherings, please show reverence for the artefacts, deities and customs that are presented.<\/span><br\/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> An important part for us is the preservation of our ancient Nordic traditions and origins. So that they do not disappear into the oblivion of time. There is so much around us in our everyday lives that comes from the Asatru and the Vikings, but too many people have forgotten why we have these traditions or where they come from. Like why we have Yule logs in our homes.
